Maison Martin Margiela

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA AT LES SOURCES DE CAUDALIE

While browsing the net this morning I chanced upon this and had to share. The link to the site for Design Folio Magazine has some incredible interiors. I suggest you check them out. The description for this post was succinct and I've copied and pasted almost word for word (Thank you Claire Sullivan)

Les Sources de Caudalie is a luxury spa in the Bordeaux region of France. The "Ile aux Oiseaux" suite sits apart from the hotel in a stilt-mounted cabin. Filled with calfskin rugs, cracked mirrors and antique furniture, and amidst the typically Margiela white-on-white decor, a flash of scarlet comes in the form of a giant pair of lips—a replica of Salvador Dali’s classic Mae West Sofa from 1936.

Kamakazi Fly

There's one of those impossibly fast and noisy flies buzzing around my office like a Kamakazi right now. It is making it hard for me to concentrate on the idea I had for today's posting so you'll forgive me if the thread of what I wanted to convey is a little off axis. I wanted to share with you the beauty and warmth of wood in a contemporary setting and was inspired by these images. I love the combination of gray, wood, white and silver. The first four images are from an article in Vogue Living AU featuring a weekend retreat home belonging to Richard Ferretti and James Gager

At home in the Hamptons

Found this Hamptons home from the now defunct House and Garden in my tear out folder. I've always adored the wide plank floors and the fridge handles on the kitchen cabinets.

The Barber, the Tailor and the Bootmaker

Yesterday I spend the whole day running around, making, painting and finishing off a few projects. Mr Smith did a great post on black and white on Monday and one of the images was a pic from an article about Captains of Industry. A great mens outfitters and general hang out spot in Melbourne. I had found these images after reading the article in the Vogue Living and stashed them. Thanks for the reminder Mr Smith. Does'nt this place look dapper. I would love a pair of those brogues. And the thought of all that Hendricks gin, well you know how I feel about that! Along the way I found two lovely blogs Koh and Co and Gatsby and Me. Be sure to visit.

Black and White contrast

Light is so important in a living space, and I love a monochromatic palette. Black and white work together with elements of wood thrown in the mix. Here are some pics to show what I'm talking about.

The texture of the wall and floor contrast beautifully with the Papier Maché, plaster and wax desk by Sam Whiteman

I'm crazy about the texture and color of the fabric on the day bed in Mariella Ienna's living room and the way they work with the subtle print on the rug. (Vogue Living Australia Feb 2010)

The contrast between the modern transparent chairs and the painted table made from an old wood door work beautifully in this kitchen.

Am putting this geometric throw on my wish list, it has such appeal. (Libby Sellers Paris apartment)

Along with this clock and light (Captains of Industry, Melbourne)

And this great collection of old cameras.

And not least of all, this wall relief sculpture by David Band and Anita Bell

At home in Atlanta

You know that if a home has been featured on Grace Bonney's blog Design*Sponge then the WHOLE wide world has seen it. But this sneak peek, ex home now studio of photographer Rob Brinson and stylist wife Jill Sharp Brinson has got to be one of the most gorgeous lofts I've ever seen! I just had to share. Go to Grace's blog here to read all the interesting details about the home.
